Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 A.D.)
L13 cm; H9 cm
This interesting pair of detachable heels for bound-foot shoes reflects trends among Qing dynasty women and bears record of their search for beauty. It also serves as material evidence of the popular identification of beauty as being small in size. Women of Qing dynasty started to recognize high heels as being in fashion. However, the physical size of bound-foot shoes often posed a limit to the practicality and convenience in having fixed high heels underneath. Therefore, such detachable high heels were born out of necessity, which could be put on when needed. This pair has floral embroidery on pink ground and yellow heels. (XY)
