Liao Dynasty (907-1125 A.D.)

        Using a 4 doup end luo gauze for ground and 2 doup ends for the lozenge pattern, the design is outlined in couching stitch with a single gold thread and are filled with polychrome threads in satin stitch,to indicate a rock, a flowering tree and a bird. The combination of a bird and rock, a tree with some flowers as a fixed motif started during the Tang dynastybut became fashionable during the Song, Liao periods for its simplicity. This also indicates that representational bird and flower motifs have reached maturity.  (XY)
