Petite flower was a popular pattern during the Sui to early Tang period, and frequently appeared on Dunhuang frescoes and colourful pottery figurines excavated in Xi’an and other places dating to this period in rich variations. The one on display presents petite floral medallion in pearl roundel, embellished with accessory rhombic flowers.
