As demonstrated by a highly exotic wax-resist dyed cotton cloth found in an eastern-Han tomb in Niya at Minfeng of Xinjiang, wax-resist dyeing might have been introduced from abroad. Nonetheless, by the Tang dynasty, it had already developed as one of the three chief resist-dyeing methods together with tie dyeing and clamp-resist dyeing.
