Preface
Sericulture and Silk Craftsmanship is not only a great invention of China, but is also shared by the Chinese nation as a common cultural identity. This heritage is comprised of techniques covering the whole process of silk production, such as mulberry planting, silkworms raising, silk reeling, dyeing and fabric weaving as well as folk customs and practices derived from silk production. "Sericulture and Silk Craftsmanship of China" has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on September 28th, 2009.
As one of the cradle lands of China silk and main places of silk production, the vast land of south of Yangtze Delta, where the Yunlong Village is located, is also renowned because of its unsurpassed richness by giving out massive fine silk every year. As an important item of "Sericulture and Silk Craftsmanship of China", the Yunlong sericulture and folk custom has been listed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009, and has become an item in Ecological Park of China’s Silk Cultural Heritage in 2011.
The Memory of Sericulture in Yunlong Village exhibition will depict a whole picture of local sericulture-related lifestyle through photographs and profiles. By working hard on protecting and inheriting the sericulture and silk crafts of China, they will hopefully continue thriving on this wonderland.
