Colorful Silks from Northern China: Conservation of Textiles from Liao to Yuan dynasty (916-1368)

Exhibition place:Textile Conservation Gallery, CNSM

Exhibition time:2013.7 - 2013.9

In north China lies a grand land. That land has beautiful grasslands, thick forests, majestic mountains, vast deserts and endless running rivers. That land is called Saibei (Northern China). It fostered many ethnic minorities, among which are Khitan and Mongol nationalities. The costumes of Khitans and Mongols have their own distinct features: as nomadic nationalities, they have simple and convenient clothes; influenced by Han culture, the clothes are at the same time exquisite.

This exhibition features textiles of the Liao and Yuan Dynasty stored at CNSM and illustrates their conservation. Here at the exhibition, you can see how each piece of them has regained its beauty and appreciate the magnificent work of conservators.
